As the lion, Leo is the star of the Zodiac in which everything revolves around because they’re ruled by the Sun, the center of the universe. Leo, king of the jungle, is also a fire sign, which signifies passion, love, and energy.  They have a lot to give and love doing so.

With the Sun as its ruling planet, this sign is likely to express themselves in dramatic, creative and assertive ways. They also possess integrity, determination, and are natural leaders.  Those born under the sign of Leo share a fixed sign which makes them head strong, and willed, to accomplish their goals. This masculine sign makes them take the lead with a need to shine.

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac, which is entered by the Sun on or about July 23rd.  Leo’s true colors are found with gold, regal purple and burnt orange. It rules the house of Pleasure, Self-Expression and Affairs of the Heart.  Represented by the lion, Leo is a symbol of sovereignty, rulership, and courage. With size and strength, they are strong leaders with a regal quality and noble manner.

In mythology, the first on the list of Hercules’ labors was the task of killing the Nemean Lion, a giant beast that roamed the hills causing havoc in the villages. Hercules’ arrows bounced harmlessly off of the lion’s body, his sword bent in two and his wooden club smashed to pieces. Hercules finally wrestled with the beast choking it to death with his bare hands. Hercules wrapped the pelt of the lion around his body to protect himself from his second labor, killing the poisonous sea serpent Hydra. The lion found its way to the heavens to commemorate its great battle with Hercules.
